Fasthosts Dynamic List

Our records indicate that the IP address sending email on your behalf is a dynamic IP address.

What is a dynamic IP address?

When you connect to the internet, your ISP allocates an IP Address to your computer, from a pool of available addresses, for the time that you remain connected. If you disconnect, this IP Address is added back into the pool, and is likely to be allocated to someone else. The next time you connect, your computer will likely receive a different IP Address. ISPs will allocate dynamic IP addresses to customers as it is more efficient than allocating each customer a static (never changing) IP address.

Dynamic IP addresses are useful for end-users, but services on the internet, such as mailservers, will use a static IP address so that other mailservers can contact them and forward emails.

Why we block dynamic IP addresses

To combat spam, ISPs and other network administrators have enforced measures to stop spam being sent across their networks. As it have become increasingly difficult to send unsolicited emails through a designated mailserver, spammers and other criminals are increasingly using viruses and "spyware" to control a large number of computers. If infected, a computer can then send unsolicited email to number of parties until the virus has been removed.

A large percentage of all unsolicited emails come from end-users' infected computers. By blocking dynamic IP addresses we can reduce the level of unsolicited emails from reaching customers, enabling us to provide an improved level of service.

What to do next...

By definition, dynamic IP addresses change regularly, so we will are not able to whitelist a dynamic IP address for any reason. The following options are available to help you send email:

Use your ISP or Email provider's SMTP server

Your Internet Service Provider will be able to provide you with a designated SMTP server that you can use.

Change your IP address

To continue running your own mailserver, contact your ISP and request a static IP address.

Re-classify your current IP address

If you believe that the IP address you are currently using is static, you will need to contact the provider of your IP address. This is usually your ISP. They can investigate, and re-classify the IP address as static with the Regional Internet Registries.
